Gregory Penna è un pilota francese che inizia ad appassionarsi al motorsport circa una decina di anni fa: “all’inizio mi prenotavo solo per turni e per giornate di prove libere sui circuiti francesi. Era più un tentativo di sperimentare. Pian piano la passione e la voglia continuavano ad aumentare e hanno preso il sopravvento sulla ragione. Lì allora la decisione: “devo fare sul serio”. Nel 2016 ho iniziato a correre sulle moto di piccola cilindrata nei circuiti di kart. E poco dopo l’iscrizione al 25 Power francese, campionato destinato a moto con meno di 25 cavalli per gare di velocità ed endurance. L’escalation poi è continuata, complice la volontà e la curiosità di conoscere e sperimentare cose nuove che sempre mi ha caratterizzato. Ecco quindi che quando ho avuto l’opportunità di conoscere il presidente della Sport Wheel francese non me la sono fatta scappare e mi sono iscritto al campionato di biclindrici che organizzano. “La mia vecchia Ducati 998, calza proprio a pennello” ho pensato. E via con un’altra avventura”
La pandemia ha poi stravolto i piani di molti e anche il campionato francese è stato annullato lo scorso anno, se non erro? “Purtroppo non sbagli. Hanno annullato tutto. E’ stata però quella chiusura ad aprirmi altre opportunità: come si dice in italiano (Gregory ha parenti nel Belpaese) “si chiude una porta e si apre un portone”. Ho visto grazie ai social network che il Motoestate ospitava al proprio interno le griglie della BDB: la Battaglia dei Bicilindrici. Francesco Greco è stato il mio principale interlocutore e così sono venuto per una wild card a Varano. E’ stata un po’ la mia ancora di salvezza. L’unica possibilità di continuare a correre in un anno disastroso come il 2020”.
E come giudichi l’esperienza? “Un’esperienza nel vero senso della parola. Sai all’inizio di una nuova avventura hai sempre paura: “come sarò trattato? Come sarà?” Poi però la realtà è stata bellissima. Sono stato accolto nel migliore dei modi e mi hanno subito tutti fatto sentire come a casa. Un’esperienza che rifarei assolutamente. Quest’anno, per ora, sono iscritto solo al campionato francese. Hanno già rimandato un paio di gare e dovrò aspettare metà giugno per la partenza ufficiale”.
Sai noi avremo un round a Varano, l’ultimo week end di giugno … “Ci sto pensando seriamente (ride). Ancora una volta voi qui correte e in sicurezza. E non molti campionati a livello nazionale ospitano griglie di soli Bicilindrici. Poi, a dire la verità, io sono molto istintivo. Potrei davvero iscrivermi come wild card e unirmi a voi a Varano”.

La giornata di Varano rappresenta il terzo round dei Trofei Motoestate, per la prima volta da dopo il 2019 la giornata sarà aperta al pubblico.
Il campionato include diverse coppe e trofei come il BDB, destinato ai bicilindrici, il CRV e la RBF Cup, la coppa che facilita il passaggio dalle prove libere al mondo delle corse. “The MES saved me, it was the only chance to race during the pandemic year "
Gregory Penna is a French driver who began to get passionate about motorsport about ten years ago: "At first I only booked for free practice track days on French circuits. It was more of an attempt to experiment. Then slowly the passion and desire continued to increase and took over the reason. Then the decision: "I have to get more serious about racing" I said to myself. In 2016 I started racing with small bikes in kart circuits. And shortly after I enrolled in the French 25 Power, a championship for motorcycles with less than 25 horsepower. The escalation then continued, thanks to the will and curiosity to know and experience new things that have always characterized me. So when I had the opportunity to meet the president of the French Sport Wheel I didn't let it go and I signed up for the two-cylinder championship they are used to organizing. “My old Ducati 998, fits just like a glove” I thought. The pandemic has then upset the plans of many riders and even the French championship was canceled last year if I'm not mistaken? “Unfortunately you are not wrong. They canceled everything. However, it was that closure that opened up other opportunities for me. I saw thanks to the social networks that the Motoestate hosted the BDB grids inside: the Battle of the two-stroke motorbike. Francesco Greco was my main interlocutor and so I came to Varano for a wild card. That opportunity really saved me. It was the only chance to continue racing in a disastrous year like 2020 ".
And how do you judge the experience? "An experience in the true sense of the word. You know at the beginning of a new adventure you are always afraid: "How will I be treated? How will it be?" But then the reality was beautiful. I was welcomed in the best way and they immediately made me feel at home. An experience that I would absolutely do again. This year, for now, I am only enrolled in the French championship. They have already postponed a couple of races and I will have to wait until mid-June for the official start ”.
You know we will have the third round in Varano, the last weekend of June … "I'm seriously thinking about it ( he laughs). Once again you are still racing there in Italy and safely. And very few national championships host twin-cylinder grids alone. Then, to tell the truth, I am very instinctive. I could really sign up as a wild card and join you in Varano ”.

The race in Varano will be the third round of the Motoestate Trophy. The championship includes several cups and trophies such as the BDB, for twin stroke motorbike only, the CRV and the RBF Cup, the cup that facilitates the transition from free practice sessions to the racing world. The round will officially begin on June 26, and it will preceded by a day of free practice on Saturday 12. Indeed, the MES rounds always follow a two-day race program on Saturday and Sunday.
